Bundaberg Tourism

Whether you are preparing for Valentine’s Day or planning a surprise getaway with your loved one, Bundaberg is one of the best places to go to. Several couples-friendly hotspots are waiting for you to explore in the city. No matter what your interests are, Bundy has something to offer.

If you have not decided where to go and what to do, here are the top activities for couples in Bundaberg:

  1. Do you both love beer? Join the Bundaberg Beer Factory Tour.

Bundaberg Ginger Beer is one of the city’s main lures. The fermented alcoholic drinks are sold not only in Australia but to about 40 countries around the world.

The tour is for both beer lovers and those who are merely curious. While you cannot enter the factory because of safety regulations, the tour will take you to a site next to it. It is shaped like a giant barrel where you can find merchandise for sale (and for cheap).

Expect the tour to be fun and interactive where you will learn how to make ginger beer. There is a screen where you can test your beer-making skills. You can also find an aroma section where you challenge how well your sense of smell works. An option for audio tours is available if you do not want to read the guide. If you’d like to check out some more breweries, look at our handy guide.

  2. Here is a treat for wine lovers: Childers wineries.

Take your loved one with you to the wineries of Childers where you can spend time visiting different sites. You can even book a quaint cottage where you can stay for the weekend. This way, you have plenty of time to enjoy the wineries in this location.

Another option is to hit the hotspots in one day through the winery trail tour. Once you are done, you can head to the town’s main street, which is one of the best places to unwind. The atmosphere is old-fashioned and quiet.

  4. For a brunch date, check out the local cafés in the area.

You have a few options for a romantic date in Bundaberg. One is the Windmill Café, which is ideal for brunches. If you woke up late for breakfast, enjoy brunch here where you can order local bacon, seared halloumi, and Worcestershire-glazed roasted mushrooms.

Another famous place to satisfy your palate is the Indulge Café. It is for people who love anything sweet. The Bambaloni Bowl has enticed many locals and tourists on a date with its stewed apples, vanilla bean custard, and meringue.

  5. A romantic night out cannot go wrong with a dinner date.

Try the Grunske’s By the River Seafood Restaurant and Market. Share a glass of wine and great food while enjoying the surrounding views. If you are in for a challenge, you can even join the My Kitchen Rules contest, which takes place in the restaurant.

You will need to contend with other aspiring winners by whipping a three-course meal. Here is a hint that will help you win: use local produce. It elevates the dish and will even give you extra points. The market is full of them, including strawberries, figs, and macadamia nuts.

  6. How about going camping? The Sharon Gorge Nature Reserve is one of the best places to visit.

The Sharon Gorge is for freedom campers where they are offered cheap (often free) accommodation in the city. You do not have to spend the rest of the night in the area. However, there are plenty of spots to explore.

While in the area, you should not miss the hidden jungle walkthrough, which stretches about one kilometre. The walk is not challenging, so it is not for adventurous couples. Tackle the site which is quite bushy, and you will find yourself at the boundary of the Burnett River when you finish it.

The Sharon Gorge is not crowded because it is not as popular as the other attractions in Bundaberg. Nevertheless, it is a great place to visit, especially if you wish to see the Mystery Craters. If you have not heard of the spot, it consists of strange and unusual crater holes. It leaves a spooky feeling to some people, so be prepared for this sensation.

  7. If you aim for your date to be relaxing time off from work, visit the Baldwin Swamp Environment Park.

A “slice of Kakadu” is what the locals and tourists call an area at Baldwin Swamp Environment Park. Take a quiet stroll around the boardwalks and paths, which will lead you through the wetlands. You will surely have a stress-free day, especially if you plan to go on a picnic date.

  8. Another excellent spot for a romantic stroll is by the Burnett River.

Bundaberg has two sections, and the Burnett River is the between them. The northern area is separated from the centre of the city, along with the southern, eastern, and western portions. When you go to the Burnett River, you may be interested in fishing, which is possible on both sides of this body of water. However, you cannot swim here, so you do not have to take your swimming gear.

The walkway by the southern portion of the river provides an incredible walkway. It stretches for about a kilometre or so, with benches where you can sit and take a break. This spot is great if you want to witness a beautiful sunset.

  9. Bundaberg gives you a chance to have a fun-filled day exploring while island hopping.

If it is the first time for you to travel to Bundaberg, one of the first things that you may want to do is to explore the area through island hopping. Lady Musgrave Island is a must-visit for anyone who loves to discover new places. It is a coral cay that spans 14 hectares, surrounded by tropical fish and coral reefs. You can go snorkelling with your loved one and even experience diving with the turtles.

Your next stop can be a deserted island, which offers you plenty of space for romantic camping. You can stay in the area for a few days as well. The island provides reef walk and bushwalk options for explorations.

Another way to discover the place is to watch the beauty of the waters while on a glass-bottom boat. You can even relax on deck as you enjoy the sun and the spectacular marine life below.

To up the ante, you can book a scenic flight where you can take pleasure in the exquisiteness of Lady Elliot Island. Make sure that you do not miss the Great Barrier Reef, which has more than 1,200 species, including humpback whales, loggerhead turtles, and dolphins.

  11. Go swimming in the nearby beaches.

The city of Bundaberg is approximately 10 kilometres away from the ocean. It is not a good idea to walk from your hotel to the beach, but it is still doable for active couples. The good news is that there are plenty of beaches that you can choose from. Take your car with you or ride a cab. Just 20 minutes of driving will introduce you to a host of beach options.

If you start from the north, you may find yourself in Mon Repos, which is a famous spot for turtles. If you visit during the turtle season, which is from November to March, you will see why it is popular for tourists and locals.

Meanwhile, if you head south, you will pass through the beaches in Bargara. At the end of your journey, you may find yourself enjoying the beauty of Elliot Heads Beach.

  12. Do you have to take the kids with you?

Dating does not have to be just you and your loved one. If you have to take the kids with you, might as well enjoy the day with them. Bundaberg offers different options for families while you still have some fun as a couple.

With your kids as the third-wheel, try different family-friendly activities in the city. Try the Waves Sports Club where you can have dinner with your significant other – and the kids as well. They can run around the area, so you get some peace and quiet alone. It is as if you have a dinner for two – well, almost.

When you are done, you can head to Alowishus Delicious to tickle your sweet tooth. There is a homemade gelato in this spot, which is extremely popular. Many flavours are available, and you can even sample them all before you take your pick. Finally, you can end the day at Alexandra Park, where you can just sit and perhaps watch your kids play around while you have a romantic conversation with each other.
